Willows Butterfly Birthday Party

A butterfly, garden party

fit for a princess.

Thats what I set out to create when my daughter came to me with "butterflies" as her desired birthday theme. Now of course, we could have easily ordered some butterfly plates, napkins, and balloons - all the butterfly party supplies - and called it a day. That was the theme after all.. but I couldn't help but envision a whole garden / tea party vibe with butterflies adorned.

If you follow me on any social medias, you'll know the brain operates in pure chaos over here, and pure chaos only. So just 5 days after christmas, we strung the butterflies, we made garlands, we went hunting for the perfect mismatched teacups, and we threw a dang birthday! It was a massive success, and Im thrilled to share the details with you all.

My MAIN focal point to this party was the table scape. It was the entire theme. But Im a big believer that details such as goody bags, dessert, and an activity thats on theme make all the difference! It was no question that the activity at a butterfly birthday should in fact be decorating your own pair of butterfly wings, right!? It just makes sense. My daughter is an artsy girl, so she loved the idea even more than I did. The butterfly wings themselves were purchased at dollar tree, score! A few things like sequins, and some stickers were purchased there as well. I also supplied assorted jewels, and glue! Each of the girls decorated their own unique set of wings, when the party began, and they were dry and able to take them home with the rest of their goodies at the end of the party.

Now goody bags is something that can go one of two ways - You can either throw some candy in a bag that has a butterfly printed on the front and call it a day, OR you can do some searching (i did this for you ;)) and find some affordable, yet on theme items that can be used well after this party is over with! I prefer the later, obviously.

So in running with this whole garden party feeling i was having, I thought how cute would it be to use teacups at the party, but include those in the items that the girls were going to take home in their butterfly party bags !? SO CUTE. I thrifted the teacups used for our party for just a couple dollars a piece. The fact they were mismatched, looked beautiful on the table, was far more affordable than buying a whole matching set, and was unique to each girl that attended! WIN WIN WIN. Some of you may have old tea cups that you can use, and thats great too.

Next was finding a bag itself that would protect these teacups on their travel to their new homes, but also not hide the cute floral cups... did such a bag exist?! Spoiler, they sure as heck do! I stuffed each bag with sparkly easter grass, added some stickers, a butterfly charm bracelet, butterfly fruit snacks, a butterfly keychain, and finished it off with a Thank you tag and a bow. They turned out so stinkin cute, and made a great addition to the table scape!

NOW, ON TO THE TABLE! My favorite part of the whole theme.

When setting a table, more is more in my opinion.

I started by first laying a pink gauze fabric down. On top of that laid a mixed eucalyptus garland. I stood back, and it wasn't as full as I had hoped... but remember how i said this party was just days after Christmas? So what did we have no choice but to do..? Take down that stinkin wreath from the front door, and use it to fill in garland, of course! Now you could absolutely just double the garland to make it nice a full, this would be my recommendation. But we were in a pinch, and we made it work!

Next, is where it really came to life, the florals! I ordered some babys breath stems, and small florals from amazon. But it was a thrifted floral wreath that supplied most of the flowers for this table. And at a fraction of the price it would have been to purchase them new. so my tip for faux florals - check your local thrift store first!

To finish off the center garland I added butterflies about, a few glittery candle holders, and some round gold confetti.

At each place setting on the table there was a white scalloped plate, gold cutlery, a teacup with matching saucer, a goody bag, and a place holder with each girls name.

To polish it off, and really drive this butterfly theme home, we strung the same butterflies I used in the garland over the table. I used fishing line, and some clear scotch tape. The butterflies are magnetic, which was a cool discovery by accident! My daughter was making the butterflies "fly" and some stuck right to the chandelier. We ended up sending some home with the girls to use on their fridges. But something to keep in mind if you use them for decorating!

Im thrilled at how the party turned out, especially it being just days after Christmas. (moms of December babies, you know it never gets easier lol) Im even happier that it was a day our girl felt so special, and celebrated by those she loves. Last party of 2023 in the books!
